Dinner & Declutter

My major issue: Dinner.
Another major issue: Clutter.
I need to cook at home for all our meals but finding just the right balance hasn't quite happened. We rush around like most families these days and are in the door and right back out. So, today I have decided to challenge myself to plan ahead. Seems simple enough and I know it must be the key to success. Luckily, this week not only do I have a plan but I have the best assistant ever coming to help me with my grocery shopping. My mom will be here just for an overnight but with Thurs now my shopping day and her arrival Thurs afternoon,  I plan to make the drive to the Winn Dixie in High Springs (I have the rewards card for fuelperks and have already earned .15 cent off per gallon) and since Thurs is also the Farmer's Market in High Springs we'll also score fresh local foods.
The way I see it is if I plan our meals from what we already have in our pantry, shop for only what is needed and use any, I mean ANY free time to cook ahead then we should be successful in having breakfast, lunch and dinner covered everyday!
So with a plan for dinner under way, I also need to continue on my plan for a clutter free home. Dinners are much more enjoyable if we aren't cramped and surrounded by things we have no use for.  So everyday, I have to make a time for at least 15 minutes to sort and purge. It really doesn't take all that long if you put your mind to it. I mean in a week's time and after I worked every morning at the school, I was able to clear out every room in this house. We ended up with a sell pile that was half the size of our garage! I know if we stick to it we will have a clean home and clear minds.
Eventually, it will become habit and we won't even realize we are doing it. If we need to buy something new, it will only be because something is no longer useful or is gone.
And so it begins, check back here for updates.
Today's dinner was smashed red potatoes, steak, and corn on the cob.
Today's purge was dance clothing too small for Erica.
Tomorrow's dinner will be...Leftovers.
Tomorrow's purge will be all other clothing too small for Erica. (Did I mention that her closet seems to keep spitting out clothes?)

  1. I'm trying the cook ahead method with a friend. We were going to cook shop yesterday and cook today, but L is sick. So we'll do it next week. We have 10 meals planned and we'll cook 2 of each and freeze. That's 20 meals in my freezer! When I do cook, I plan to double up whenever possible-- it's just as easy to make 2 or 3 of the same thing as 1. You may want to try... :)
