I was born at home, yes, you heard it. Not in a hospital but at home. The story without all the real flare of drama that my grand entrance into this world came with goes like this...my Momma and older siblings who were at the time, 14, 13 and 11 years old were all at a revival at the Baptist church just a block from our house. My mom went into labor, gathered her chicks and went home, had me before the ambulance service, my Grandma and uncle could arrive...I hear that by that time the whole congregation had gathered out in our front yard. I suppose you could say I was born right into church!
So why the background check...well, that birth story has a lot to do with who I am. In fact, that little congregation helped raise me. They saw me through the good, the bad and the ugly. I have a group of women whom even today I know I could go to for anything. Some of that group has long since passed on but still influence decesions I make. Granny Tucker's sweet greetings of "Hey, my little sunshine" remind me to greet friends (and even foes) with kindness. Miss Jerry Lee's respect for others and gentle ways have kept my spirit in order many a day. I do not discount my own mother's guidance in my life and she will tell you the same that through that village watching over me, I was able to grow and learn to be a child of God who can pass that along to others. And if you wonder what I learned from my Momma, that easy to say but tough to achieve-strength. She is rock solid. She kept us together through a lot of strife and found time to volunteer for church, food banks and the Red Cross. So, as you go along this week think of those who have helped shape your path and where it is leading. I finally see mine. It is a sweet little path with filtering sunlight and I am reminded to spread a little sunshine as I go along.
